Coal mine blast kills 10 miners in Hunan
Ten miners were killed in a gas blast at a coal mine in central China's Hunan Province on Friday evening, the provincial administration of coal-mine production confirmed Saturday. The victims' bodies had all been found by 4:30 a.m. Saturday and the local government has started to discuss the compensation for the victims' families, said Chen Jiankang, head of the administration's office in Chenzhou City, where the mine is located. A total of 14 miners were working underground when the explosion occurred at 19:49 Friday at the Zhenzhuling Colliery in Jiahe County, Chenzhou City. Four people escaped from the site, but 10 others died of gas asphyxiation, said Chen. Five of the victims are local residents and the others are fromneighboring Sichuan Province, he said. The cause of the accident is under investigation. |
