Skyworth Digital Holdings, China's third-largest TV set maker, said yesterday that its operations were normal despite the arrest of its chairman for allegedly stealing from the firm.

"Our business has not been affected by the incident," Skyworth's newly appointed chief executive, Wang Dianfu, told reporters.

Wang took the helm earlier this month after Chairman Wong Wang-sang and others were arrested by Hong Kong's graft-busting Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) on November 30 over allegations of misappropriated company funds and corruption.

Despite the scandal, Skyworth's TV production reached a monthly record in the first 27 days of this month, and sales jumped 17 per cent year-on-year to 685,000 units, Wang said. Skyworth is set to exceed its annual units' sales growth target of 13 per cent.

"We are very confident sales will be even better in January. Many Chinese want to buy new goods before the Chinese New Year in February," Wang said.
