Cuba advanced to the third round of the Caribbean qualifying round for the Gold Cup in the United States in 2005, after defeating Martinique 2-0 in away match.

According to reports from Fort de France, capital of Martinique, some 13,000 fans gathered in Dillon Stadium applauded the performance of the Cubans coached by Armelio Luis.

Alain Cervantes and Lester More scored for Cubain nine and 62 minutes respectively.

Cuba also won the first leg 2-0 in Havana's Pedro Marrero Stadium on December 12.

On January 9 and 16, the Cuban team will meet Haiti, who defeated Saint Christopher and Nevis 3-0 last Sunday.

The winner will move on to the Caribbean final round contested by four teams in Barbados, on February 20-24, from which top three finishers will qualify for the Gold Cup, scheduled for July 6-24 in the United States.

This competition is the top event of the regional soccer confederation, CONCACAF, which comprises the Caribbean, North and Central America.

Cuba participated in the Gold Cup in 1997, 2001 and 2003, and in the latest edition it moved on to the quarterfinal where it was overwhelmed 5-0 by the United States.
