Weekend only marriages for city trendies "5+2" married life has become a new trend for career-orientated people in Shanghai, reports the city's Wenhui News. As the term suggests, these couples spend five weekdays apart, each busy with their own career, and only get together at weekends. The youngsters from Wuhan, Hubei Province and their three partners from a school in Singapore came second in the Best of Category for Mythology and Legend. They sought to portray Chinese traditional culture through the eyes of children, reports the Chutian Golden News. *** College dream pair turn to crime Two bright but poor middle school students carried out a 100,000 yuan (US$12,000) kidnapping to get the money to go to college. But their dreams of a future were dashed as they began lengthy jail sentences. Both had gained good marks at school and one passed the National College Entrance Exam last year, reports the Dahe Daily. But they knew their parents from hard-up rural families in Nanyang, Henan Province, would never be able to pay college fees. So, they kidnapped a little boy from a wealthy family. Police were tipped off and when the two went to collect their ransom, officers rescued the child and arrested the pair. One youth was sentenced to eight years imprisonment, the other to five.
