A vehicle pileup accident occurred on the highway from the Beijing Capital International Airport to the city proper Sunday morning, but no casualty was reported, local police said.

Witnesses said that at 7:40 Sunday morning, 30-odd motor vehicles piled up on the section 1.8 kilometers from the State- Gateway toll station.

The accident was triggered off by bumping among seven vehicles. The first Santana car hit in the pileup was crashed totally, the witnesses added.

Local police hurried to the spot immediately after receiving accident reports and cleared the traffic flow within one hour or so, the witnesses said.

According to a car driver at the scene, such a pileup involving so many vehicles has been seldom seen in recent few years.

The road surface was slippery, as it was covered by a thin layer of after a sleet Saturday, the witnesses said. And traffic police reminded drivers that they should drive more carefully and slowly in such weather.
