FIFA sanctions Costa Rican soccer coach
Costa Rica coach Jorge Pinto has been suspended for one match by world soccer's ruling body FIFA, the Costa Rican Soccer Federation (FEDEFUT) confirmed on Tuesday. The Colombian was sent off during a CONCACAF zone World Cup qualifier between Costa Rica and Honduras on Nov. 17 for disputes with referee Salvadorean Rodolfo Sibrian. The ban means Pinto will have to sit in the stands when Costa Rica meets Mexico on February 9, 2005, in its first match in the final round of CONCACAF zone World Cup qualifying tournament. Pinto's assistant Erick Lonis is expected to take over the responsibility for the match. Three top-ranked teams in the six-team CONCACAF qualifying tournament will head for Germany 2006, while the fourth placed side will vie for a berth with an Asian team. |
