Wade leads Heat past Raptors Dwyane Wade finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead Miami to a 106-98 win over Toronto at the Air Canada Centre.
Shaquille O'Neal scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Heat, who have won four straight and five of their last six games. Udonis Haslem contributed 17 points and eight boards.
"I think we just picked up (our intensity) in the fourth quarter," O'Neal said. "We had a couple of defensive stops. It was a real up-and-down game."
Jalen Rose finished with a game-high 25 points for the Raptors, who have lost seven straight and nine of 10. Rafer Alston -- who played the entire game -- registered 19 points and nine assists, while Morris Peterson added 17 points.
Damon Jones added 16 points. for Miami, which scored nine straight points early in the fourth quarter to overturn a three-point deficit. Keyon Dooling's layup put it ahead 86-82 with 8:42 remaining.
A three-pointer by Peterson pulled the Raptors within 88-87 midway through the fourth.
But the Heat responded with a 12-5 burst to take control. Jones hit a three- point shot to put them ahead 100-92 with 1:06 to go.
"We didn't get it done," Rose said. "I thought we had a pretty good game early. We had the lead, were executing. moving the ball and getting what we wanted at the offensive end."
Alston's jumper, with less than three minutes to go in the first quarter, put the Raptors ahead 19-12.
Consecutive layups by O'Neal trimmed the Miami deficit to 23-19 with a minute to play in the first. But it trailed 27-19 at the end of the quarter.
Rose hit a short jumper early in the second quarter to put Toronto ahead 31-22. Less than three minutes into the second, it led 37-26 on two foul shots by Donyell Marshall.
The Heat trailed 53-52 on two foul shots by Haslem with 1:33 to play in the second, but were down 57-54 at halftime.
O'Neal scored 16 points, on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, in the first half. He finished 9-of-13 from the field.
Neither team led by more than three points during a tightly contested third quarter. A three-pointer by Rose, with 38.9 seconds to play in the third, put the Raptors ahead 80-77 at the end of the quarter.
A basket by Rose to open the fourth quarter staked Toronto to an 82-77 edge. |
