Guangdong's GDP to top US$241.83b in 2006 The gross domestic product (GDP) of Guangdong Province, one of China's economic powerhouses, is expected to reach two trillion yuan (US$241.83 billion) at the end of 2006, double that of 2000, governor Huang Huahua said recently. Huang said that Guangdong has seen a new surge of economic growth since 2003. The province's GDP for the first 10 months this year totaled 1.27 trillion yuan, a rise of 14.5 percent year on year. The total GDP for the whole year of 2004 is expected to exceed 1.6 trillion yuan (US$193.47 billion). Huang made the remarks when speaking about Guangdong's economic development during a recent visit to the Zhongshan University. This is four years ahead of the original target given Guangdong's GDP hit two trillion yuan in 2006, Huang said. According to the original target set by the provincial government, the GDP is to reach two trillion yuan and the per capita GDP to hit approximately US$3,450 by 2010, double that of 2000. The per-capital GDP is formerly set to hit approximately US$7,000 by 2020. |
