He played 90 minutes for the Everton in the 1-1 draw against West Brom reserves as team skipper.

He admitted he was surprised to be given a full game. But the player insists he will not rush his comeback into the Everton first team.

The 27-year-old, captain of the Everton reserves team, is taking a softly-softly approach to making a return to the first team who have reached third place in the Premiership this season.

The midfielder broke his shin playing for China in February and only kicked a ball again in a competitive match for the English Premiership club's reserve side in a 30-minute run out against Wolves in November.
