Health alert for body cleansing

Guangzhou experts were warning consumers to be careful with lung and blood cleansing in beauty parlors and hospitals, Xinhua reported Wednesday.

Human organ cleansing had become popular in Guangzhou as people were becoming more aware of health issues and believed cleansing could help remove "inner poisonous materials," the Information Times reported.

It was especially popular among young women who believe the process makes them look better and slimmer.

Blood cleansing was sought by people who had kidney or liver problems, a doctor form the Guangzhou No. 2 People's Hospital said. But, frequent blood cleansing could increase the possibility of blood contamination, he said.

Lung cleansing was sought by people with lung problems but not smokers, he said.

The best way to keep fit and healthy was to exercise more and have a healthy diet rather than body cleansing, the doctor said.
