"It's a new challenge for Liu Xiang," Yu Weili, deputy head coach of the Chinese athletics team, told a press briefing.

"Liu is not a newcomer for the Golden League, but next year's event will be the first time that he enters all grand prixs," he added.

Liu, 21, equalled the world record of 12.91 seconds in winning a dramatic gold medal in the men's 110m hurdles at this summer's Athens Olympics, becoming the first Chinese male track and field Olympic champion.

The six-leg ISTAF 2005 Golden League is scheduled to start on July 1 in Paris and conclude on September 4 in Berlin.

Yu said that Liu would have to skip next September's Asian Athletics Championships due to the tight Golden League schedule.
