island of Hainan. [Xinhua] | "Although some girls have quit the pageant, there are still 112 contestants,
the most in the history of Miss World," Julia Morley, executive chairperson of
the organizing agency, was quoted by Xinhua as saying in Hainan.
This year will be the second in a row that the final round of the pageant
will be held in China. Last year's contest took place in Hainan's Sanya city.
The contest this year will be held on December 4 in Sanya and the women are
expected to arrive at the tropical resort on November 8.
Sanya hosted last year's Miss World after the central government's approval
of the pageant to promote tourism.
The city fought an aggressive marketing campaign to bring the contest to the
island, which it is promoting as a tourist resort.
