UNAM obtains 5th straight win in Mexican soccer tournament

UNAM on Sunday obtained its fifth straight victory with two goals from Uruguayan Diego Alonso for a 2-1 win over Chiapas.

Alonso scored twice with headers and contributed to the recovery of his team which was losing with a goal scored by Paraguayan Salvador Cabanas for Chiapas, in a match played in the Olympic Stadium of Mexico City.

With this victory UNAM moved to the top of Group A and became the tournament's fifth best team by now in the present season.

Chiapas suffered its fifth defeat in 13 matches and is ranked 15th on the table with 14 points.

In another match of the 13th round, Pachuca won 2-1 over Santoswith two goals from Uruguayan Water Gugliemone. Santos scored through Argentine Matias Vuoso, now with nine goals in the season.

On Saturday, Toluca lost 0-1 to America; Cruz Azul thrashed Tecos 5-2; Guadalajara won 1-0 over Monterrey; Tigres lost 1-3 against Atlas, and Veracruz obtained a 2-1 victory over Culiacan.
