Koubek beats Gaudio; Henman struggles
Stefan Koubek beat French Open champion Gaston Gaudio 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the Swiss Indoors.
Second-seeded Tim Henman struggled to get through to the quarterfinals for the eighth straight time, converting only one of 12 break points in a 7-6 (2), 6-7 (0), 6-4 victory over Wesley Moodie, who hit 24 aces.
"It was closer than I would have liked it to be," said Henman, who's been taking magnesium pills after feeling fatigued last week. "It was a long match and it's a good sign that I'm feeling in pretty good shape. The telltale sign will be how I feel tomorrow morning."
In other action, Jiri Novak moved on when fifth-seeded Tommy Robredo withdrew with a right shoulder injury; 2002 champion David Nalbandian eliminated Vincent Spadea 6-4, 6-4; Bohdan Ulihrach defeated Ivo Heuberger 6-1, 6-4; sixth-seeded Rainer Schuetter defeated Marco Chiudinelli 7-6 (4), 6-2; and No. 7 Nicolas Massu beat Mariano Zabaletta 6-2, 6-4.
In the quarterfinals, Henman will meet Novak, who ousted him in the opening round of the Sydney Olympics (news - web sites) the last time they played.
"I like to think I can't play any worse then I did then," Henman said.
