A roadside bomb exploded near an American military patrol in Baghdad Saturday, injuring six soldiers, the U.S. command said.

The attack occurred at 7:15 a.m. along the main highway leading to Baghdad International Airport, the U.S. military said.

Witnesses saw an armored vehicle engulfed in flames. The troops were evacuated to a nearby military medical facility. None of the soldiers received life-threatening injuries, the U.S military said.

The stretch of highway leading to the airport is the site of frequent attacks by insurgents, and is considered one of the most dangerous roads in Iraq.
