Virgin plane diverted after bomb scare (Agencies) Updated: 2004-10-14 16:43
A Virgin airlines passenger plane has been diverted to Stansted airport near
London and has landed safely after a bomb threat, an airport spokeswoman says.
The Virgin Atlantic Airways flight from Hong Kong to London's Heathrow
airport with 233 people aboard landed at 5:27 a.m. on Thursday.
"I can confirm that a Virgin plane flight VR201 from Hong Kong to Heathrow
was diverted to Stansted due a bomb threat," a Stansted spokeswoman told
Reuters. "We are starting to offload passengers now."
Last month, a bomb threat forced an Olympic Airlines plane to make an
emergency landing at Stansted. A search turned up nothing and the plane was
later allowed to take off.
Stansted is London's designated airport to handle planes involved in security
alerts.
