HK tycoon's actress daughter files suit against magazine
Actress-singer Josie Ho, daughter of Hong Kong gambling tycoon Stanley Ho, has filed a defamation suit against a magazine for hinting that she served drugs to her guests at a party, newspapers reported Saturday.
The article did not mention Ho's name. But Ho said it was public knowledge that her father was a tycoon, and that she'd accepted her boyfriend's proposal at a birthday party at that time, the Ming Pao and South China Morning Post newspapers reported. Ho filed court documents contending that the article was false, and that she ``has suffered grave loss and damage to her character, credit and reputation'' and ``grave mental distress and embarrassment'' as a result. She accused the magazine of subjecting her to ``public odium, contempt, scandal and ridicule,'' and is seeking unspecified damages and an injunction to stop further publication of the claim. Her billionaire father's interests include casinos he has run for more than 40 years in nearby Macau, a former Portuguese colony handed over to China in 1999. Eastweek's lawyer Eric Tam declined to comment on the case on Saturday. A
judiciary spokeswoman, Glenis Liong, said she had no information about the case.
