Usher didn't need any "Confessions" to prove he's the world's best
male artist. The singer earned three 2004 World Music Awards on Wednesday,
while Outkast — the big winner at this year's Grammys— also took home
three awards.
Buxom actress Pamela Anderson wore a
tight, black miniskirt to present Usher with his first award and joked
with the audience about searching for a boyfriend.
"So, Pamela, I
don't mean to start any rumors, but I'm single," Usher told the former
"Baywatch" star.
For the first time, the awards show was broadcast
from the United States after previously being held in Monaco.
The
two-hour show honoring the world's best-selling recording artists was
broadcast live on ABC throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada from
the Thomas & Mack Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
An additional hour filled with awards and performances by
international artists was taped for a later worldwide broadcast to more
than 150 countries.
Besides world's best male artist, Usher was
honored as best pop male artist and best R&B artist. His latest album,
"Confessions," has sold more than 5 million copies.
Outkast won
for world's best group, best pop group and best rap/hip-hop artist. Norah
Jones also was a big winner, winning awards for world's best female artist
