China urges US to stop interfering Hong Kong affairs
China urged the United States to stop interfering in China's internal affairs with Hong Kong issues, said Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Zhou Wenzhong Tuesday. At a meeting with James Andrew Kelly, US Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Zhou voiced strong dissatisfaction at and firm opposition to a resolution passed Monday by the US House of Representatives on so-called "support for freedom in Hong Kong". Zhou reiterated China's solemn position on the Taiwan question and requested the US side to adhere to the one-China policy, abide by the three Sino-US joint communiques, stand opposed to "Taiwan independence" and stop selling weapons to Taiwan with concrete actions. Kelly said the US side attaches importance to US-China relations and China's positions on Hong Kong and Taiwan issues. There is no change on the US side's one-China policy and its support for the Chinese government's implementation of "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong and the Basic Law, Kelly said. |
