Two children were killed and 39 buried under rubble when their kindergarten collapsed in Central China's Henan Province.

"The rest of the children are out now," said Zhang Linshan, an official with the Jiyuan Municipal Government, the school's authority.

He said 28 of them were injured and now in hospital.

The building suddenly collapsed at around 9:30 am during a singing class.

Rescue teams were sent to the spot immediately.

Chen Dongfeng, head of the investigation team, said the kindergarten had been opened by a villager named Miao Xin, who had not registered it with the administrative department.

The reason for the collapse is still under investigation.
