Beijingers enjoy fresher air in 2004 (Xinhua) Updated: 2004-08-08 11:31
The national capital Beijing reported 26 days with good air quality in July
this year, 6 days more than last July, according to statistics.
According to the municipal environmental protection bureau, active cold air
activities and frequent rains contributed greatly to the drop in pollutants in
the air. Pollutants are mainly particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide.
As of July 31, Beijing reported 130 days with fresh air, one day more than
last year's same period. With environmental protection efforts, Beijing hopes to
see 227 days with fresh air.
To reach its goal, Beijing will continue its efforts in air pollution control
by reducing vehicle emission, pollution at construction sites and industrial
pollution, said a source with the municipal environmental protection
bureau.
