Something clever up your sleeve
There is a new kid on the block in the world of portable listening devices -- the mp3blue jacket.
It features Bluetooth wireless technology sewn into the garment, and an MP3 music player, which can be operated by a cloth button control on the left sleeve. When the jacket needs washing, the electronic module is simply removed. The module has a rechargeable battery, which lasts for eight hours once charged. The 128 megabyte jacket, made by Bavarian clothes firm rosner with the help of German chipmaker Infineon, was showcased at the world's largest fashion trade fair, CPD Woman-Man, held in Dusseldorf, Germany over the weekend. The jacket will retail for about 600 euros. Infineon strategy and emerging business chief Dieter May says the company hopes to develop more lines of clothing that would incorporate electronic functions. It unveiled its first wearable electronics product -- a similar jacket aimed at snowboarders -- in conjunction with designer sportswear label O'Neill in January. It has also developed a "smart carpet", which is embedded with microchips and
sensors that collect information about what is happening on the carpet's
surface
