2.4 million Britons can't get enough of the office (Agencies) Updated: 2004-07-30 14:00 Some 2.4 million workers in
Britain suffer from 'work lust', a form of extreme workaholism, according to an
employment study published yesterday.
The Work Foundation, a London-based think tank on social issues, said in its
report that 'workophiles' prefer life in the office to the home.
They avoid staying at home as much as possible because they derive much more
satisfaction from being at work, said the report, which was based on a survey of
1,000 workers across Britain.
Overall, 67.3 per cent of those polled were satisfied or very satisfied with
their jobs, but a third were at best neutral about their job or at worst,
dissatisfied.
The average Briton worked 1,673 hours last year, about 100 hours more than
the EU average, a study by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and
Development revealed earlier this month.
