The increased storage capacity is open to all Internet users, according to a statement on the Yahoo China web site.

Yahoo email service now has more than 500 million global users, said Zhou Hongyi, president of Yahoo China. "The gigabyte age of email storage is coming."

Some web companies based in China have enlarged storage for their email boxes this year. Sina has upgraded to 30 megabytes (MB) and Netease up to 260 MB, the Beijing Daily Messenger reported.
