Samples of a historic album with more than 300 photos on China sports published in China were present in Beijing on Tuesday to the Chinese delegation for the Athens Olympic Games and the organizers of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

"An Immortal Heritage -- China Sports Photos" edited and published by the Wisdom Publications (Beijing) Co Ltd, has collected rare pictures on China sports taken by Chinese photographers.

They range from the very first picture on China sports taken by an unknown photographer in 1890 to various works up to 2003 on vigorous modern Chinese sports.

The album features many of China's sporting heroes. Among them are the successful mountaineers who scaled the 8848-meter-high summit of Mount Qomolangma in 1960, world champion table tennis players Rong Guotuan and Qiu Zhonghui, China's first Olympic medal winner athlete Chi Cheng from Taiwan Province, world champion diver Chen Xiaoxia, five-time world champions women's volleyball team, China's first world champion gymnast Ma Yanhong, China's first Olympic champion and shooter Xu Haifeng, table tennis star Deng Yaping and world and Olympic champion diver Fu Mingxia.

He Zhenliang, China's former vice-president of the International Olympic Committee, has written an epigraph for the bilingual album.

Among those present at a launching ceremony for the album in Beijing on Tuesday were officials of the State General Administration of Sports, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) and veteran photographers.
