Hu welcomes Mongolian leader
Near neighbours and growing friends, China and Mongolia should work together on profound and down-to-earth progress on the bilateral ties, said President Hu Jintao yesterday during a meeting with his Mongolian counterpart Natsagiin Bagabandi. In recent years, Sino-Mongolian ties have seen brand new development, said Hu.
Expressing contentment with the rapidly growing ties, Bagabandi said it is Mongolia's chief diplomatic task to establish a long-term, stable, and mutually beneficial relationship with China. He said Mongolia will stick to the one-China policy. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the amendment of Sino-Mongolian friendship and co-operation agreement as well the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. Hu said China would work with Mongolia to further develop bilateral relations in four areas. To keep up high level contacts by sticking to friendly neighbourly relations and trust, Hu said the two sides should enhance exchanges between parties, parliaments and government departments. The two sides should also enlarge and deepen economic and trade co-operation, focusing on resource exploitation and infrastructure construction, as well as carrying out the agreed programmes to tap new channels of co-operation, Hu said. Third, the two nations should enhance exchanges and co-operation in the fields of culture, education, environmental protection and tourism. The Chinese President also suggested the two neighbours strengthen communication and harmony in dealing with international and regional affairs. For his part, President Bagabandi praised Hu's opinion and said Mongolia would work with China to consolidate and promote ties. After their meeting, the two leaders appeared at the signing ceremony of four documents on bilateral economic and technological co-operation, border administration and the balance of a bilateral banking system. Paying a week-long visit from July 1 to 6 to China, the Mongolian president will also attend a Sino-Mongolian economic and trade co-operation seminar as well as meet with other Chinese leaders today before returning home. |
