Beijing set to build automobile show facility An automobile business centre - Beijing International Automobile Exposition Centre - the only one of its type in China to date, is to be built in the capital city's Fengtai District. Involving an investment of 3.8 billion yuan (US$457 million), the centre will cover 58 hectares, and the building area will be 650,000 square metres. Public bidding is expected to be held shortly, Zhang Dali, head of the district, which is located in southwest Beijing, told China Daily in an interview. "To be different from other automobile markets, the Beijing International Automobile Exposition Centre aims to provide full access to everything about automobiles. This includes their culture, information, high-tech knowledge, amazing fun and unlimited opportunities," says Zhang. "In addition, it will show auto technologies and the stunning processes of creation while displaying most fascinating popular auto science to the public who will find it a source of knowledge and joy," says Zhang. The centre will consist of an automobile museum, which will present car exhibitions to the general public, and many developments designed for business opportunities, such as a brand pavilion, sales block, business block and auto theme park. "In a bid to apply top international standards in creating the best centre in the country for auto brand promotion, transaction and information exchange, construction of the project will be conducted via an international invitation for public bids," Zhang said. So far, a group of foreign and domestic enterprises has contacted the district government but the governor declined to disclose their names. Zhang said the museum was a public welfare project. "Investment and operation expenditure in the museum are to be dependent in part on the revenue of the automobile exposition centre, investment and donations," Zhang said. The design of the museum, a landmark construction and the most important facility of the centre, has been completed by Germany's HENN Architecten together with Bregman - Hamann Architects of Canada. |
