Top-ranked Justine Henin-Hardenne has pulled out of Wimbledon due to a lingering viral illness.

The Belgian, who lost in the finals in 2001 and the semifinals in the last two years, said she was withdrawing on the advice of her doctors.

Henin-Hardenne, the 2003 French Open champion, lost in the second round at Roland Garros, failing to achieve a full comeback after missing six weeks with the viral infection.

Her withdrawal came the day after fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters, ranked No 2, pulled out with a wrist injury.
