Blair vows to serve full term
British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said he would lead his Labor Party into the next election expected in 2005, the Daily Mirror newspaper reported on Saturday. "Am I up for doing it? Yes I am," he told the newspaper in an interview. Confronting those who say he must pledge to serve a full term if he stands at the next election, Blair said, "The reason I try to answer that carefully is you always end up with headlines saying I am going on, and on, and on." Blair's remarks came after mounting speculation about his resignation as his public trust and popularity have plummeted since the Iraq war last year. A poll published Saturday in the Daily Telegraph newspaper showed that 41 percent of the questioned wanted Blair to resign immediately and a further 18 percent believed that he should go before the next election. |
