CEPA brings first goods from HK to Chongqing (Xinhua) Updated: 2004-05-27 09:18
The first non-tariff goods exported from Hong Kong to Chongqing on the
Chinese mainland arrived Wednesday in the southwestern metropolis, greatly
enhancing trade and economic cooperation between the two cities.
The tariff-free goods are 10,000 HK-made write-once CDs. The delivery is a
result of the implementation of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement
between Hong Kong and the mainland (CEPA), which took effect on January 1, 2004.
CEPA sets the legal framework for the endeavors to phase out tariffs and
non-tariff goods trade barriers, phase in liberalization of services trade, and
promote trade and investment facilitation for common
development.
