Black boxes of crashed cargo plane being searched

Chinese rescue workers and police are seeking the black boxes from the crashed cargo plane around the site of the tragedy.

Parts of the plane and the cargo it carried are scattered in a 2-square kilometer area around the site which has been sealed off by the police.

The Il-76 cargo plane of Azerbaijan crashed at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday near Urumqi International Airport in Xinjiang, northwest China.

The plane, with a crew of 7, was supposed to operate a mission from Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province in north China, to Baku of Azerbaijan via Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang. It took off from Taiyuan Airport at 5:50 a.m. and landed at Urumqi Airport at 9:10 a.m.

The plane crashed in a forest 10 kilometers away from Urumqi Airport two minutes after taking off at the airport.
