Man jailed for porn after cellphone pictures
A man who used a cellphone to take nude pictures of his girlfriend and then posted them on the Internet has been jailed for distributing child pornography in what officials say is Canada's first criminal conviction involving camera phones.
Police and court officials said May 14 that Matthew Kalijarvi, 20, had pleaded guilty in Sudbury, Ontario, to possessing, manufacturing and distributing child pornography -- his girlfriend was 17 -- and to other charges involving the use of illicitly obtained photographs. He was jailed for six months, and will be banned from using a cellphone or computer for two years after he is released. "We want to deter the public -- people who might be thinking of doing this type of thing -- from committing these types of crimes," said Assistant Crown Attorney Karen Lische. "He was obviously very adept at computers and he would have had a bright
future ahead of him had he not chosen to use his talent this
way." |
