300,000 laid-offs re-employed in first quarter
Over 300,000 laid-off workers from state-run enterprises found re-employment in the first quarter, shrinking the nation's total to about 2.3 million, according to a report released by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Statistics from the ministry indicate that 1.46 million of all the laid-off workers have shown up in re-employment service centers across the country to register for unemployment. All the registered had received living stipends from the government and their social insurance fees were also paid by local governments. Retirees also got basic endowment pensions in full amounts. "The government's policy for supporting retirees of state-run agricultural enterprises has been fully implemented," said a ministry official in charge of the affair. "More efforts will be made to guide all localities to set up and improve re-employment aid mechanisms according to their own situations, and violations will be punished accordingly," he said. |
