Beijing to crack down on illegal pyramid selling The Beijing Industry and Commerce Bureau, together with local public security departments, launched Thursday a campaign against illegal pyramid selling. Bo Zonglin, director of the bureau's economic inspection section, said the 75-day campaign would deal with all forms of illegal pyramid selling, especially through the Internet. Bo said cases of illegal pyramid selling had increased in recent years. Local police solved 10 cases of this sort last year, involving some foreign enterprises. Liu Jian, vice director of the Beijing Industry and Commerce Bureau, said the municipal government would strengthen supervision of the market and build up warning and emergency systems against illegal pyramid selling. The government would exert large pressure on illegal pyramid selling by canceling business licenses of enterprises and severely punishing the organizers. China cracked over 2500 cases concerning illegal pyramid selling last year, said Liu, in which over 110,000 people were involved. |
