Arsenal maintained their unbeaten run in the Barclaycard Premiership this season as they shared an uninspiring goalless draw with Newcastle at St' James Park with both teams seemingly suffering from their fraught schedules.

The Magpies had the first real chance of the match when Alan Shearer's cut-back to Craig Bellamy was cheekily flicked towards Jens Lehmann's goal by the Welshman but the German did well and tipped the ball around the post.

Arsenal then took charge of the match though they created very little until a mistake from Jermaine Jenas allowed in Sylvain Wiltord; the Frenchman wastefully shot wide of the target.

The second half was as scrappy as the first, though Arsenal had two good chances to grab the points.

A long ball forward found Thierry Henry in acres of space but having gone round Shay Given the striker found the angle too tight and could only find the base of the post with his shot.

Henry then found space to float in an inviting cross from the right but the unmarked Jose Reyes headed straight at Given and Newcastle were able to escape.

The point sent Arsenal seven points clear at the top of the table and moved Newcastle level on points with Liverpool as they chase the fourth Champions League spot.
