Men rape girls to get rid of HIV Two Cambodian men have been accused of raping young girls in the belief that they could rid themselves of HIV, a newspaper reported Monday. Uk Bopha Roth, 18, and Satt Yeut, 42, both from Preah Vihear province in northern Cambodia, were arrested March 23 for raping an unspecified number of girls under the age of 10, an unidentified police official told The Cambodia Daily. It also quoted the provincial governor, Preap Tan, as saying the two men had confessed and were charged in court on March 25, but did not elaborate. Neither of them has tested positive for HIV but they suspected that they were infected with the virus since they often had unprotected sex with prostitutes, the Daily said quoting the police official. He was quoted as saying the rapes were motivated by the belief that having sex with virgins or prepubescent girls can cure them of sexual diseases or AIDS. It is not clear how many girls were raped, how old the girls were, when they
were raped or if the men knew each other. Local authorities were not immediately
available for comment. |
