Three killed, 3 missing in Xinjiang mine blast

Three miners were confirmed dead and three others still missing in a gas explosion that occurred Friday night in a coal mine in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The blast happened at around 7:15 p.m. Friday when eight miners were working in the coal mine which belonged to the coal refinery run by the No. 104 regiment of Xinjiang Construction Corps No. 12 Division, said the regiment head Zhao Yuxin.

Two miners managed to escape from the explosion and rescue workers found the bodies of three victims at 11:00 p.m. Friday, Zhao said. He saw dim hope for the three missing miners to survive.

At press time, rescue workers are cleaning the pathway and ventilating the mine.

The coal refinery of the No. 104 regiment produces 90,000 tons of raw coal every year.
