Doctor sends healthy dad-in-law to hospital

To accomplish the task assigned by the hospital, a doctor in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, colluded with his healthy father-in-law and had him hospitalized, reports China West Metropolis News.

The poor doctor said his hospital issued a notice at the beginning of last month demanding each medical worker bring in at least two patients to be hospitalized by the end of the year - and those who fail to do so would have their allowances cut.

The doctor had to target his in-law but his wife had a fight with him after she discovered the truth.

'New-wife' clothes ad causes controversy

A new wife only costs 100 yuan (US$12) - that's the advertisement on buses in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province, which has stirred a controversy among residents, reports Guizhou Metropolis News.

The advertisement was for a garment show to be held in the city, and insiders told the media last week that it was meant to convey the message that a woman could have a new look if the husband spends only 100 yuan for new clothes.

But a middle-aged woman said she felt outraged reading the words; while three college students said the ad was creative and eye-catching.

30 men compete for free plastic surgery

More than 30 men in Shanghai have signed up to vie for free plastic surgery that will win the lucky one a handsome visage, reports Oriental Morning Post.

The lucky draw for the facelift, estimated to cost 300,000 yuan (US$36,000), was jointly launched by a local plastic surgery hospital and a model agency.

Most of the applications said the major reason for entering the contest was to hopefully become a movie or TV actor after the operation.

Clandestine photography not clearly defined

A Guangzhou man was upset when he saw a scantily-clad woman featured in a photo at a website looked like his girlfriend, reports New News Express.

Long is only one of the victims of the increasing number of cases in which women are secretly shot by mobile-phone cameras at changing rooms or bathhouses and displayed on the Net.

Police said they had received a few reports of such cases, adding, however, "secret shooting" is not clearly defined in the law and evidence is hard to find.

Job seeker with fake diploma has haemorrage

A young man in Shenyang of Liaoning Province, who tried to land a job by showing a fake educational certificate, suffered from cerebral haemorrhage after his trick was seen through, Liaoshen Evening News reports.

Tang, 20, who had only secondary-school education, tried to find a job at a local electric-appliance company with a fake diploma to help his father support the family.

But he was not accepted when recruiters found a lot of holes in his answers to queries.

After returning home, the anxious man had a headache and started vomiting; and when he was rushed to hospital, he was diagnosed as having suffered a cerebral haemorrhage.

His condition has added to the burden of his poor family; and his father is worried about the high cost of treatment.
