The world 5,000m bronze medalist Sun Yingjie of China has pulled out of next month's Xiamen marathon to prepare for the more lucrative London marathon, organizers said on Sunday.

The Xiamen marathon, which will be held in southeast China's Xiamen City, Fujian Province on March 27, will also serve as the Chinese qualifying competition for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

But Sun has accepted the invitation from the London marathon organizers, who had offered an appearance fee of 100,000 U.S. dollars.

Since the London marathon will be held a few weeks after Xiamen, Sun has no choice but to concentrate on the London event.

Sun won last year's Beijing marathon in two hours 19 minutes 39 seconds, the second best time in 2003.
