Sheng Huaren, vice-chairman of NPC Standing Committee The following is the biographical sketch of Sheng Huaren, who was just elected vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC): Male, born in 1935, of Han nationality, a native of Sheyang, Jiangsu Province; joined Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1954 and started to work in 1951. Served as technician and deputy director of a construction company in Nanjing; office secretary of Party Committee of Nanjing Chemical Industry Corporation, and secretary of office secretary of Party Committee of Chemical Fertilizer Industry Corp. under Ministry of Chemical Industry in 1958-65. Deputy head of Overall Planning Group under Ministry of Fuel and Chemical Industries, and Ministry of Petroleum and Chemical Industries; deputy director and director of Planning Department of Ministry of Chemical Industry in 1970-78. Deputy general manager, executive deputy general manager, and deputy secretary of Leading Party Members' Group, of China Petrochemical Corp. in 1983-1990; general manager and Leading Party Members Group secretary of China Petrochemical Corp. in 1990- 1998. Minister in charge and secretary of the Leading Party Members' group of the State Economic and Trade Commission in March 1998- 2001. Member of the 15th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Standing Committee member of the 9th NPC since 2001.
