Hao Jianxiu -- Vice-chairwoman of 10th CPPCC National Committee

The following is a biographical sketch of Hao Jianxiu, who was just elected vice-chairwoman of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC):

Hao Jianxiu, female, born in 1935, of Han nationality, native of Qingdao, Shandong Province. Started to work in September 1949; joined the CPC in May 1954; graduate of the Cotton Textile Specialty of the Textile Engineering Department of the East China Institute of Textiles Engineering, research fellow class senior engineer.

Worker at the State No. 6 Cotton Mill in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, in 1949;

Studied at the Crash Course Middle School attached to the People's University of China in 1953;

Studied at the East China Institute of Textiles Engineering in 1958-1962; technician at the State No. 6 Cotton Mill in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, in 1962-1965; deputy director, chairwomanof the Revolutionary Committee and leader of the Party nucleus group of the State No. 8 Cotton Mill in Qingdao, vice-chairwoman of the Qingdao City Revolutionary Committee, chairwoman of the Qingdao City Council of Trade Unions, vice-chairwoman of the Shandong Provincial Council of Trade Unions, chairwoman of the Shandong Provincial Women's Federation and member of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee in 1965-1977;

Vice-minister and member of Party Nucleus Group of the Ministryof Textile Industry and vice-chairwomen of the All-China Women's Federation in 1977-1981; minister of Textile Industry and secretary of the Party Nucleus Group of the ministry in 1981-1982;alternate member and member of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1982-1987; vice-minister and Party Nucleus Group member (ministerial level) of the State Planning Commission in 1987-1988; vice-minister and Party Nucleus Group member (ministerial level) of the State Development Planning Commission in 1998-2001; and member of the Standing Committee of the 9th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in 2001-2002.

Member of the 11th and 12th CPC Central Committees; alternate member of the secretariat of the CPC Central Committee; becoming amember of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee at the 5th plenary session of the 10th CPC Central Committee and member of 13th through 15th CPC Central Committees; becoming a member of Standing Committee of 9th CPPCC National Committee at the fourth session of the 9th CPPCC National Committee.
