Beijing Telecom, the undertaker of networks for the 21st Summer Universiade, has got network ready for the event, said an official of the company Monday.
"All the telecom systems for the 21st Summer Universiade are go,"said an official from the technical department of the Universiade Organizing Committee. "They are the best ever in terms of technology and operation."
Beijing Telecom, a branch of China Telecom, has taken four months to make the Intranet and local area network (LAN) shipshape.
"Now foreign delegation officials, reporters and athletes may communicate with their families and friends and file stories from anywhere in the main press center and sub-press centers, all competition venues, at the athletes' village and the Shangri-La Hotel," said the official.
The service systems provided by Beijing Telecom serve as the basis for the transmission of data, voice and images.
The field operation service system is ready to accept and install rental phones, ISDN fax machines and dedicated lines for data transmission, offer Internet operation services, handle IC cards, IP cards and Internet access cards.
Beijing Telecom has set up two routers to form a loop optic cable transmission passage for telephony, faxing, data transmission and computer networking and radio and TV broadcasting. Scenes at all venues for finals will be transmitted at a speed of 2M.
The result computer system covers all the competition venues and each venue has a LAN with computers hooked. Gathering, processing, printing and announcing of results will be done automatically in the networks. The LANs at the venues go to form an Intranet through the metropolitan area network (MAN) and the Universiade computer center, which is connected with Internet. Competition results will be available on the Internet just seconds after the end of each event.
