SK Telecom Co Ltd said the SK Group is considering investing in Chinese mobile phone service operators, including China Mobile and China Unicom, when China becomes a member of the World Trade Organisation.
"We are considering various strategies including stake purchases ... nothing specific has been decided yet," a company spokesman said.
He added that any investment would be made using the proceeds that units SK Corp and SK Global Co Ltd are to receive as and when they sell their combined 14.5 percent stake in SK Telecom to NTT DoCoMo.
The spokesman declined to comment on market speculation that the talks regarding the planned stake sale would be concluded by the end of this month.
He also said that the launch of the W-CDMA 3G service will depend on the development of technologies, including dual-mode/dual-band handsets.
"We will be able to meet the government deadline of 2003 (for the service delivery)," he said.
