The China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association was launched on Friday in Beijing to mediate between the government and manufacturers.
The establishment of the association, following the government's dismantling of nine industrial bureaux in February, is seen as a strategic move in the government's institutional restructuring process to meet the requirements of the World Trade Organization.
The association, tying up the majority of firms in the industry, is expected to assist the government in allocating each enterprise raw materials, such as copper, aluminium, lead and zinc, and in co-ordinating domestic enterprises.
