Private businessmen in China are now with higher educational background, a survey showed.

The survey conducted by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and other institutions indicates that the proportion of private entrepreneurs with college or university diplomas jumped from 16.6 percent in 1993 to 33.5 percent in 2002.

About 95 percent of private entrepreneurs covered by the survey were once heads of state-owned enterprises, government officials, technicians, workers or farmers. About 30.2 percent of the private entrepreneurs are members of the Communist Party of China (CPC), up 12.1 percent over 1993.
