World champions Russia defeated China 25-16, 25-23, 27-29, 26-24 to win the Russian President Cup women's volleyball tournament here on Monday.
The Russians took advantage of their superiority in height in the first two sets as they raced to a 2-0 lead comfortably.
The Chinese girls, fresh from last week's triumph at the Swiss Grand Prix, rallied to win the third set thanks to excellent blocking and spikes, but failed to hold on and allowed their opponents to delight the home fans.
Azerbaijan beat the United States 3-2 to win the bronze medal at the eight-team tournament which also featured Italy, Japan, Croatia and Turkey.
