The Chinese women's national volleyball team left Beijing on Monday for Switzerland to attend a yearly international tournament which will kick off on Tuesday.

The tournament, which has become more and more eye-catching, features eight teams including last year's world champions Italy, runners-up the United States, bronze medalists Russia, and China this time.

The 12-strong Chinese squad including ace setter Feng Kun, spikers Yang Hao and Zhao Ruirui, came to Beijing on Sunday from their traditional training base in Zhang Zhou of China's Fujian Province. All the players and coaches passed the medical checks here before leaving for Switzerland.

Chen Zhonghe, the team's head coach, said that some of his players will compete for their country for the first time and that it will be a good test for the whole team as they will attend their first match in the afternoon of the day when they arrive.

"It is also a good chance for me to see the form of my players after a long closed-door practice," Chen added.
