Kidman film gets rare U.N. OK ( 2004-02-01 09:15) (Agencies)
In a rare move, U.N. officials gave approval for a film starring Nicole
Kidman and Sean Penn to be shot at U.N. headquarters, spokeswoman Marie Okabe
said.
Kidman will star
with Sean Penn in the thriller. | "The
Interpreter," a thriller about a translator who overhears a conversation that
could cost her her life, will be filmed primarily at the organization's world
headquarters in New York, she said.
Director Sydney Pollack asked Secretary-General Kofi Annan for the go-ahead a
few weeks ago.
The outside of the United Nations has appeared in numerous movies but
Hollywood has been unsuccessful in getting permission to film inside for many
years.
Okabe said she didn't know whether Annan or other U.N. staff would appear in
project.
