Andy Lau put hand imprints on Avenue of Stars ( 2004-01-17 15:09) (Xinhua) Another three outstanding Hong Kong film stars, Fong Yim Fun, Andy Lau Tak Wah and Josephine Siao Fong Fong, put down their names and hand imprints for the Avenue of Stars of Hong Kong on Friday. At the fourth hand imprint ceremony of the Avenue of Stars, oneof the organizers of the event Cheng Yu Tung, chairman of the New World Group, said that for many years, Hong Kong film professionals have been producing countless quality films that arehighly appreciated by Hong Kong and overseas audiences. He said that the film industry is a fitting expression of the Hong Kong spirit -- progressive, positive and innovative. Hong Kong is now known to many as "Hollywood of the East," which is source of pride for all citizens. With the handprints of outstanding film professionals permanently placed at the Avenue of Stars, their names will be immortalized and their charm and grace will always be a part of the collective memory of Hong Kong citizens and tourists, said Cheng. He also expressed his hope that the Hong Kong movie industry will continue to prosper and the Avenue will become a major attraction for visitors and a good weekend hangout for locals. Situated at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, the Avenue of Stars isa project of 40 million Hong Kong dollars (5.18 million US dollars). The project is financed by the New World Group and is due to open in the second quarter of this year. Besides displaying hand imprints and signatures of Hong Kong's outstanding film professionals, the Avenue also features nine "milestones" recounting the history of Hong Kong cinema in the pastcentury, various sculptures and souvenir shops. The Avenue will belit up in the evening, and its illumination will add to and be part of Hong Kong harbor's nightly wonder. The Hong Kong Film Awards Association Limited has been giving its full
support to the project and acting as its honorable consultant. Its ten
affiliated associations have selected by popular vote the film professionals
whose contribution and outstanding work have made history in Hong Kong. Their
names and hand imprints will forever be impressed upon the
Avenue.
