Barca confirm Vieri interest
( 2004-01-17 10:25) (skysport.com)

Barcelona have revealed they would be interested in signing International star Christian Vieri but only if they could afford him.

Vieri's future at Inter has been the subject of intense speculation for a number of months now, with Premiership moneybags Chelsea believed to be keen on bringing the striker to England.

Barcelona have now put their hat into the ring for the former Atletico Madrid ace, but admit they would only sign the Italian international if the price is right.

"We would be willing to talk but only if the economical conditions are favourable to us," Barca vice-president Sandro Rosell told 'El Mundo Deportivo'.

"It is obvious that we know all about Vieri and his ability. Yet, in order for him to arrive here, there needs to be certain circumstances that are currently not in place."

Inter have tried to play down the rumours surrounding Vieri by insisting that he is going nowhere.

Meanwhile, Barca are believed to have targeted Brazilian star Robinho as their next major signing.

Reports emanating from Spain suggest that initial talks have taken place between Barca and Santos over the highly-rated forward.

Barca president Joan Laporta is thought to be keen to team Robinho with current Camp Nou hero Ronaldinho.
